The Langley bantam A2 Eagles captured gold in Penticton.

Kaden Maryschak snapped a 3-3 tie with nine minutes to play, sending the Langley bantam A2 Eagles to the gold medal.

The Eagles defeated Port Moody 4-3 in the championship final of the Penticton Minor Hockey tier 2 tournament over the weekend.

Langley led 3-1 thanks to a pair of goals from Nic Cormack and one from Connor Cross before Port Moody tied things with two goals late in the second period.

Jovan Kheleh earned player of the game honours as the Langley goaltending came through with 45 saves.

“The boys had a great start to the tournament and played hard right to the end,” said head coach Darcy Pinch. “As a coaching staff, it’s definitely something we preach and hopefully we can continue to build on it throughout the season.”

The Eagles finished the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record.

They defeated the Calgary Northstars 7-5 in the opener as Maryschak and Lleyton Shearon scored twice apiece while Trenton Ralph chipped in with a goal and two assists.

Captain Nicholas Danyluk paced the attack with two goals and an assist in a 5-1 win over Penticton.

And the line of Danyluk, Cormack and Coleton Fisher combined for a dozen points in a 7-2 win over Kamloops to complete the round robin.

 

Goaltender Keegan Maddocks shut the door in the semifinals, earning the shutout in his team’s 2-0 win over Campbell River.
