More than 500 athletes descended on Langley for the eighth annual Flip City Invitational Gymnastics Competition which took place in the Field House at the Langley Events Centre over the weekend.
It was the biggest event held by the Langley-based club, which posted a strong performance, especially in the artistic category.
This is the club’s first time holding the competition at the new facility.
In total, 22 clubs registered for the weekend competition, including the largest number of out-of-town clubs that Langley has ever hosted.
Teams came from as far away as Prince George, Nanaimo, Powell River and Kelowna.
Another new element was the transition of the Women’s Artistic Program to the Junior Olympic program that is based on a 10 point scale.
Gymnastics BC adopted this new scoring standard for 2015.
Flip City is hosting the first competition under Gymnastic BC’s sanctioned events for 2015, thus making the Flip City Invitational the first competition to feature scoring using the Junior Olympic program in B.C.
“This has meant a huge transition for athletes, coaches and judges,” said Flip City president John Aldag.
“Flip City looks forward to being the first to showcase this new judging standard to the gymnastics community in B.C.”
