GALLERY: Raindrops fall on Tadpoles during Will Smith Memorial Tourney

Fifth annual tournament wraps up Sunday with semifinals and finals at Walnut Grove Park.

Once again this spring, Mother Nature’s timing hasn’t been great.

After a dry start to the day, raindrops started to fall around 1 p.m. Saturday (April 29), which was day three of the four-day Will Smith Memorial 9U Tadpole Tournament, hosted by North Langley Baseball.

The 16 teams involved in the tourney were split into four pools and games take place at George Zarrelli Diamond, the South Diamond at Walnut Grove Park, and Fort Langley Park.

Barring a rainout, the tournament will continue Sunday (April 30) with the semifinals taking place at 3 p.m. at the George Zarrelli Diamond, and the South Diamond at Walnut Grove Park.

The championship game is scheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday at George Zarrelli Diamond.

This year marks the fifth annual tournament in honour of Will Smith, who passed away Feb. 10, 2013 after a two-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was 47.

Smith played his youth baseball with Whalley and made it to the Little League World Series three times as a player, in 1978, 1981 and 1984.
