Girls hockey championship is this weekend in Langley

The Fraser Valley Phantom and Thompson-Okanagan Rockets are set to face each other in the 2014 Female Midget AAA (FMAAA) Championship.

The best of three series will take place Friday, April 4, to Sunday, April 6 at the Langley Sportsplex.

This is the third consecutive year the Phantom and Rockets have met in the FMAAA Championship. The Phantom have won the title the past two two years.

Game One: Friday, April 4, 8:15pm

Game Two: Saturday, April 5, 8:45pm

Game Three: Sunday, April 6, 1:30pm (if necessary)

During the regular season, the Phantom and Rockets met six times, where they tied once and the Phantom won five games, out-scoring the Rockets 23-10.

The winner of the FMAAA Championship will advance to the Pacific Regional tournament to play the winner of the Alberta Midget League.

The Female Midget AAA League was initiated in the 2007-2008 season in response to the membership’s desire to provide an opportunity for elite female hockey players to come together on zone teams to challenge other elite Female Midget teams.

Since its inception, the FMAAA league has had over 50 players go on to play at post-secondary institutions in Canada and the United States.
