Keeping their competitors at single digits was all that head coach Gary Bowsher could have hoped with the Langley Peewee A3 Eagles team went up against Dawson creek this past week at the provincials.

Doing that, they earned themselves a silver and some serious bragging rights, Bowsher said.

“We were the only team that did and were able to score more than one goal on them,” the Eagles coach added.

The local boys lost the Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association’s Tier 3 division banner to Mission earlier this month, yet still earned a spot in the BC Peewee Minor Hockey Provincials hosted in Dawson Creek from March 19 to 23.

The Eagles went undefeated in round robin play, facing South Okanagan, Terrace, and Cranbrook.

In semifinals, the Eagles had a rematch against their rivals, Mission A1, and came back from a 4-2 for Mission in the second period to win 5-4 in the third.

Bowsher said that victory came because of “great determination.”

In their challenge against Dawson Creek A1 Canucks – who demolished their competition – the Eagles were defeated 9-3 on Thursday, earning the Canucks the gold.

“Considering the calibre of the Dawson Creek team, our boys played a phenomenal game. They fought hard and they never gave up. Our team may have brought home silver, but, to me, they won gold,” Bowsher said.

Being the first Langley Peewee A3 team to attend provincials and bringing home the silver medal are just two of many accomplishments for this team this season, he said.

Good deed votes needed

Two days prior to the provincials, the Eagles were crowned the BC regional winners in the Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup, and are now competing against 12 other teams across Canada for the grand prize.
