A new regional playoff format is set to begin next season for Canadian Junior Hockey League teams.
The champions of the B.C. Hockey League, the Alberta Junior Hockey League, the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and the Manitoba Junior Hockey League will compete along with one host team at the newly-created Western Canadian championship.
The inaugural event will be hosted by Nanaimo April 26 to May 5.
The 13-game tournament will include a round-robin schedule, two semifinal games and a championship game.
Both the Western Canadian champion and the runner-up will advance to the RBC Cup, Canada’s national junior A championship.
The host site will alternate between the four leagues.
