Trinity Western’s Alison Jackson once again proved her mettle on the international stage as the Spartans track and field and cross country standout finished second in the 2014 ITU World Triathlon Age Group Sprint Championship Friday before finishing 24th overall in the Age Group Standard Championship in Edmonton.
Jackson finished the sprint event (750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run) in a time of 1:08.38 and was only bettered by two-time elite world champion and Olympic silver medalist Michellie Jones of Australia.
That race was held on Aug. 29.
After two days off, Jackson was at it again in the standard length triathlon (1500m swim 40km bike and 10km run) and finished seventh in her age group (25 to 29) and 24th overall with a time of 2:15.53.
This wrapped up a busy summer for Jackson, primarily on her bike.
She won the three-day Tour de White Rock Omnium while in the Tour de Delta, she was second in the criterium and ninth in the road race. Jackson also finished 15th overall in the Gastown Grand Prix.
Jackson is coming off of an indoor track and field season with the Spartans in which she captured a Canada West gold medal in the 3000m and a silver in the 4x800m relay. She also earned a Canada West gold medal in cross country while finishing fifth overall at the CIS national championships. The Canada West and CIS championships are based on the results of the same race. This past March, Jackson raced in the world university cross-country championships in Uganda, finishing 17th overall and helping Canada win a bronze medal in the team competition.
