Jr. Blaze close to clinching

Their ninth win in 10 games helped the Langley Jr. Blaze clinch top spot for the second straight year.

The U16 baseball team defeated the Fraser Valley Jr. Chiefs 51 on Monday.

Liam Stroud threw a complete game three-hitter, striking out a dozen Chiefs batters along the way.

He leads the B.C. Junior Premier League with 88 strikeouts and a 9-0 record.

Tanner Shaer, Tyler O’Neil and Michael Dagg had an RBI apiece.

The victory, Langley’s fourth straight, improved the team to 37-6 with five games remaining in league play.

The second-place Nanaimo Pirates sit six games back at 29-10.

The Blaze resume league play on Sunday with a doubleheader at McLeod Park against the Coquitlam Redlegs.
