Langley U16 baseball team wins third straight after edging Whalley in doubleheader

The Langley Jr. Blaze came out on the right side of a pair of one-run games to push their early-season win streak to three games.

The U16 baseball team edged the Whalley Jr. Chiefs 6-5 and 5-4 on Sunday at McLeod Park in B.C. Junior Premier Baseball League action.

Langley improved to 3-1 with the results.

In the opener, the Blaze scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Matthew Reston hit a bases-loaded single with one out.

It was Reston’s second RBI of the game.

Bayley Germain, who also had an RBI, pitched two innings for the win, allowing just one base runner on an error.

In game two, Langley took advantage of four Whalley errors — while overcoming three mistakes of their own — to post their second straight one-run win.

Eric Broatch earned the win, allowing three runs on three hits. Andre Pelletier picked up the save, pitching the final two and one thirds innnings.

Danny Hollins, Shayne Clarke and Steven Young had the RBIs while Mason Verge scored twice, including the winning run.
