Junior Blaze blanked by UBC

Langley had nine runners in scoring position, but failed to bring anyone home

One team made the most of their opportunities while the others failed to do so.

And not surprisingly, an inability to bring runners home cost the Langley Junior Blaze as they saw their two-game win streak end with a 6-0 loss to the UBC JuniorThunder.

The two BC Junior Premier Baseball League rivals were playing on Wednesday at McLeod Athletic Park.

Nine times Langley had runners in scoring position, but could not cash anyone home. On the flip side, UBC took advantage of their opportunities, scoring runs infour of the six innings.

Nico Bleha was tagged with the loss for the Blaze after allowing three hits in four innings.

Carson Chorpita and Terrell Rogers led the offence with a pair of hits apiece for the Blaze.

The Blaze were coming off 10-3 and 5-3 victories on Sunday at Whalley Athletic Park.

Langley led 4-0 in the opener before blowing the game open with a six-run fifth inning.

After Brandon Nicoll, Nick Holdershaw and Russel Young all scored on wild pitches, Tommy Kreitz belted a two-run double and then scored himself on Carson Chorpita’s RBI single.

Ryan Blight earned the win, with three innings of one-hit ball, striking out three. Terrell Rogers has started the game, allowing no hits and striking out four but walking five in his two innings.

Joshua Mirecki pitched a complete for the victory in game two.

The offence was keyed by two RBIs from Samson Beck while Rogers scored two runs.
