It seems to be feast or famine for the Langley Junior Blaze.
In the 16U baseball team’s six victories this season, they have scored a combined 56 runs — an average of more than nine runs per game. But in the team’s three losses, they have managed a meagre total of three runs. And that was the case on Sunday as Langley went to Vancouver and lost 1-0 and 2-1 to the UBC Junior Thunder.
Langley sits with a 6-3 record in the BC Junior Premier Baseball League.
Sunday’s first game was scoreless until the bottom of the seventh and final inning when North Shore broke through for the game’s only run on a walk-off bases-loaded single.
Joshua Mirecki took the loss, scattering seven hits over the game.
Game two saw Langley strike for one run in to the top of the first inning when Samson Back scored on Brendan Winning’s fielder’s choice.
UBC would strike back for a pair of runs in the bottom of the second and that would be the game’s only offence.
Ryan Beitel took the loss despite allowing just three hits over five innings.
The Blaze also defeated the North Shore Junior Twins 5-3 on Saturday at McLeod Athletic Park.
Langley scored four times in the fifth inning and after North Shore cut the lead to 4-3, the Blaze tacked on one more run in the sixth.
