The Langley Junior Blaze were an opportunistic bunch, taking advantage of four Whalley errors to win their seventh straight game.

The Jr. Blaze scored three runs on just two hits to defeat the Whalley Junior Chiefs 3-1 on May 1 at Whalley Athletic Park. The win improves Langley to 7-0 in the B.C. Junior (U16) Premier Baseball League.

Langley opened the scoring in the third inning. Nick Laflamme reached first base on an error and then scored on another error.

The Jr. Blaze added some insurance in the next inning with a pair of runs.

Brendan Holmstrom opened the inning with a double and then after advancing to third, he scored on a sacrifice fly from Thomas Sloan.

And with the next batter, Danny Hollins — who was on base with a walk — scored on an error by the second baseman.

Whalley would break the shutout with a run in the bottom of the sixth.

And that was the only blemish for Tony Pharand, who pitched a complete game, allowing one run on four hits. He struck out seven.

The Jr. Blaze have a busy weekend ahead as they host a pair of doubleheaders at McLeod Park: May 4 (1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.) against the Nanaimo Jr. Pirates and May 5 ) noon and 2:30 p.m.) against Whalley.
