Junior Blaze take down league leaders

Langley has won seven of past nine games, improves to 12-6

A walk-off win helped the Langley Junior Blaze to their seventh victory in the past nine games.

Alex Wright belted an RBI double, scoring Russell Young from second base as the Blaze rallied for the come-from-behind 5-4 win on Thursday (May 25) night at McLeod Athletic Park.

Langley trailed 4-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning against the BC Junior Premier Baseball League-leading White Rock Junior Tritons. The loss was just the third in 17 games for the Tritons.

Langley sits third in league play at 12-6.

Brandon Nicoll led the Blaze with a pair of RBIs while Young also drove in one run.

Samson Back earned the win, coming on in relief in the top of the seventh inning with two outs and needing just two pitched to nail down the third out.

He relieved Ryan Beitel, who has struck out eight over 6.2 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and a walk.

Langley had also won three of four games over the weekend.

On Saturday, they grounded the Abbotsford Junior Cardinals 5-3 and 12-4 in Abbotsford before splitting Sunday’s twin-bill with the Coquitlam Redlegs in Langley. Coquitlam won the opener 14-7 before the Blaze returned the favour with a 15-4 win.

Langley is back in action on May 28 with a doubleheader at Mackie Park against the North Delta Junior Blue Jays.
