An opening period where they scored six goals was a big catalyst for the Langley Junior Thunder as they won for the sixth time in the past seven games.
The Thunder defeated the New Westminster Junior Salmonbellies 9-5 on June 7 at the Langley Events Centre.
The win improved Langley to 6-5 in the B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League standings while the ’Bellies fell to 7-4.
The Thunder led 6-1 after 20 minutes.
Both teams scored once in the second and New Westminster had the slight advantage in the third, outscoring the hosts 3-2.
Reigning league MVP Reegan Comeault made a big impact in his first game of the season.
Comeault, who just returned home from his freshman season with the Ohio State Buckeyes, scored three goals and set up three others.
Rookie Brett Dobray continues to shine as the Thunder's leading scorer added three assists to his growing point total.
Dobray leads the league in goals with 20 and is second in points with 38 through 10 games.
William Vanden Hooven chipped in with a goal and two assists, while Brandon Bull, Jake Taylor and Nick Stone each had one goal and one assist.
Adam Will and James Rahe scored one goal apiece and Brendan Mykle-Winkler set up a pair of goals.
Ryley Brown was sensational in goal, especially in the first period when he made 21 saves on 22 shots. He finished with 39 saves.
The Thunder are in Nanaimo (1-10-1) on June 9 and their next home game at the LEC is June 15 when they host Port Coquitlam (4-5).
