Kim, Herbert lead Langley charge

Olympians start season with impressive showing at pair of meets

The Langley Olympians were in fine form with their season opening meet last weekend.

The swim club was at the UBC Aquatic Centre for the 2014 Vancouver Pacific Swim Club Invitational Meet.

“This was an awesome start to our season. It’s always a great confidence boost for so many of our swimmers to come out of an early meet with so many best times, qualifying times, records and placings," said Olympians head coach Brian Metcalfe.

"We are looking forward to what we can now achieve at our next meet and indeed for the rest of the season.”

Joshua Kim, 12, took the aggregate trophy for his age group, winning five events — 50 breast, 50 back, 100 breast, 50 free, 100 IM — and second in four others — 100 free, 100 fly, 100 back, 50 fly. Along the way, he also broke six club records in the 100 free (1:00.20), 50 breast (34.41), 50 back (33.42), 100 breast (1:14.23), 50 fly (30.74) and 100 IM (1:14.62).

And while the young age group swimmers were at UBC, a team of Langley’s top senior swimmers were on Vancouver Island, competing in the B.C. senior circuit meet.
