Aldergrove junior B hockey team holds three point lead with two games to go

A pair of victories this week have the Aldergrove Kodiaks poised to clinch a division title.

The junior B hockey squad edged the North Vancouver Wolf Pack 4-3 on Monday and then downed the Port Moody Black Panthers 6-2 on Wednesday.

Both games were played at the Aldergrove Arena.

The Kodiaks have one regular season game remaining — on Saturday (Feb. 25) on the road against the North Delta Devils — and hold a three-point lead over the second place Abbotsford Pilots for top spot in the PIJHL's Harold Brittain Conference.

The Pilots have two games to play.

Against the Wolf Pack, Matthew Lloyd scored the winner with 6:30 to go as the teams were tied at three goals apiece.

Thomas Hardy, on a power play, Mitchell Guiel and Scott McHaffie had the other Aldergrove goals while Spencer McHaffie had three assists.

Ross Baadsvik made 36 saves.

Facing Port Moody two days later, Thomas Hardy led the way with two goals and an assist. he leads the PIJHL in both goals (32) and points (70).

The Kodiaks fell behind 1-0 five minutes into the game, but Hardy answered back with a power-play marker later in the period.

And in the second, Hardy and Ryan Veillet scored 14 seconds apart to take the lead for good.

Daniel Higgs extended the lead to 4-1 in the third, and after the Black Panthers got back to within a pair, Scott McHaffie and Guiel closed things out.

Brenden Sharp made 31 saves for the win.
