Labour Day youth soccer returns to Langley

With little fanfare, a youth soccer tournament is being held in Langley over the Labour Day weekend.

The Langley FC Labour Day Tournament starts Saturday and runs until Monday (Aug. 30 to Sept. 1) at Willoughby Community Park.

The youth soccer competition features U9  to U18 boys and girls teams.

For close to a decade and a half, youth soccer was a staple in Langley over the Labour Day weekend.

That is, until 2012, when the Langley Labour Day Michael J. Smith Memorial Soccer Tournament was cancelled.

If it went forward that year, it would have marked the 14th edition of the tournament, also known as the LLDT.

At the time Langley FC, which was organizing the event, posted on its website: “We will be re-organizing and enhancing the tournament to allow for more teams, more fields, and more exciting events to make the 2013 tournament the biggest and best Labour Tournament in BC.”

However, the 2013 event didn’t happen either.
