Langley bantams shine in All-Star Bowl

Players from Langley Minor Football, and from Langley, got a chance to shine with fellow all-stars over the weekend.

The Valley Community and Vancouver Mainland football leagues held their integrated all-star games at Chilliwack’s Exhibition Park.

The games showcased the best players nominated from teams on Vancouver Island and in the Lower Mainland.

In the 12-man bantam game, the Rough Riders defeated the Tribe 28-13.

The Riders included 12 players from Langley Minor football.

The Riders opened the scoring on a missed field goal for a single point, as they took a 1-0 lead into the second quarter.

Drey Blair, a Langley resident who plays for North Delta Longhorns, scored the game’s first major, by returning a punt return the length of the field to give Riders an 11-0 lead.

Kicker Triston Yanciw from North Delta added a field goal to make the score 11-0 for the riders.

The Riders second touchdown  Victoria receiver Alec McKenzie scored the Riders’ second touchdown on a 40-yard reception from quarterback Bailey McMillan, also from Victoria.

North Delta’s Tyson Philpot added a touchdown on a deflected pass reception.

The Tribes’ Michael Calvert, who plays for South Delta, scampered into the end zone to give his team six points as the third quarter ended with the Riders leading 25-6.

In the final quarter, Tribe quarterback Gabe Oliveres connected with fellow Chilliwack Giant Ryan Clayton for a touchdown.

The Rough Riders then added a field goal to close out the scoring.

The offensive line of the Rough Riders dominated throughout, and their managed to contain the Tribe’s offence.

Langley’s Jacob Smart led the Riders’ charge by making more tackles than any other player.
