One of the host teams worked hard to capture a tournament title at Willoughby Community Park over the weekend.

Langley FC's U16 gold girls soccer team took top spot in its division at the Langley FC Labour Day Tournament, which wrapped up on holiday Monday, Sept. 1.

Langley, which finished with a 2-1-1 tournament record, edged Port Moody 1-0 in a shootout in the gold medal game.

“I thought the girls played great overall. We had a rough first game Saturday but kept improving over the weekend,” Langley FC coach Jamie Plowman said. “It was nice playing against quality teams, especially the Port Moody team. They were a real challenge for the LFC girls and [we] stepped up to take the shoot out win.”
