Langley gymnasts set the bar high

Athletes from the Langley Gymnastics Foundation will be headed to Saskatoon for the Western Canadian Gymnastics Championships from April 24 to 26.

These championships help identify future high performance athletes and prepare them for competitions such as Canadian Championships, Western Canada Summer Games and Canada Winter Games.

For other athletes, their participation in these championships may be the pinnacle of their careers.

Qualifying for Team BC from the Langley club are: Ben Strybos, Brandon MacDonald, Luke Van Harmelen, Maddy Woznica, Ryder Croome, Trevor Ma, Tyler Welch, Victor Blaine, Haley Biggin (of Surrey), Lauren Van Harmelen, Sophia Walters and Stephanie Bedry (of Maple Ridge). Langley’s Cathy Zhong (Omega Club) and Kyle Machibroda-Ames (Twisters) also qualifed.

Sixty-nine artistic gymnasts from throughout B.C. qualified to complete at the 2014 Western Canadian Gymnastics Championships. The gymnasts were selected to Team BC following trials held in Kamloops in March.

The annual championships are hosted by the western provinces and territories. For many of the athletes, this is their first time to be on Team BC.
