Langley Knights, Aldergrove Kodiaks search for winning solution

Langley and Aldergrove’s junior B hockey teams had the weekend to mull over their most recent losses.

In a chippy, penalty-filled affair, the Langley Knights suffered their first loss on home ice this season on Thursday when the league-leading North Vancouver Wolf Pack came into the George Preston Recreation Centre and beat them 7-3.

The Kodiaks, meanwhile, were victimized by a late goal from Delta’s Stephen Hawco, who snapped a 3-3 tie with 6:17 remaining in regulation time as the Ice Hawks came away with a 4-3 victory at Aldergrove Arena on Wednesday.

North Vancouver Wolf Pack 7, Knights 3

Special teams proved to be the difference, as the Wolf Pack (who improved to 13-1-0-2 on the season) cashed in on five of their 11 power play opportunities.

The game was tied 2-2 after 20 minutes, before the Wolf Pack took control in the middle frame by outscoring the Knights 5-1 to take a commanding 7-3 lead.

Neither team found the net in a third period that included a pair of fights.

Four of the Wolf Pack’s five second period goals came with North Vancouver enjoying a man advantage. The Knights was hit with seven minor penalties in the second period.

Daniel Delbianco led a balanced Wolf Pack attack by tallying twice. Five other North Vancouver players scored goals.

Nicolas Bizzutto, Colin Catchpole, and Jackson Surbey scored for Langley.

Delta Ice Hawks 4, Aldergrove Kodiaks 3

The Kodiaks ended up on the losing end of a back-and-forth game.

Aldergrove led 2-1 after the first period on markers from Wyatt Versluis and Jordan Funk, who scored his team-leading 10th of the season.

Delta jumped ahead 3-2 by scoring the only two goals of the middle frame.

At the 4:47 mark of the third period, Elvis Jansons tied the game for the Kodiaks.

ICE CHIPS: The Knights (9-5-1) will be out to snap a two-game winless skid when they hosted the Richmond Sockeyes on Monday, Nov. 3 at the GPRC. The game gets underway at 7:30 p.m.

The Kodiaks are home to the Sockeyes Wednesday, Nov. 5. Opening puck drop at Aldergrove Arena is 7:15 p.m. and tickets are available at the door.
