Renae Ledoux was the Langley Olympians’ golden girl at the 2015 Canadian Age Group Championships, which took place in Quebec at the beginning of the month.
Renae won gold in the 15-year-old girls 100m and 200m breaststroke events to go with a bronze in the 50m breaststroke at a meet that was held over six days and was attended by 880 age group swimmers from 154 clubs from all over Canada.
Each swimmer attending needed to have a minimum of three qualifying times in order to complete.
A team of nine swimmers from Langley Olympians Swim Club (LOSC) qualified for this prestigious event,
Chelsea Borrowdale, 16, Josie Field, 13, Bailey Herbert, 12, Jenessa Hillman, 14, Brayden Kells, 13, Joshua Kim, 13, Renae Ledoux, 15, Hillary Metcalfe, 17, and Justin Schramm, 17.
The Langley contingent had a fine meet with many of them winning medals, making finals, best times and new club records.
Bailey Herbert was another multi-medal winner in the 12 & under girls’ category.
Bailey won silver in the 50m breaststroke, 400m IM, 100m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke and bronze in the 200m IM. She also made finals in the 100m fly, 200m fly and 200m freestyle. Bailey broke club records in 100m fly (1:10.16); 50m breaststroke (34.90 seconds); 100m breaststroke (1:16.41); 200m breaststroke (2:41.71); 200m IM (2:30.14) and 50m fly (31.58 seconds).
Hillary Metcalfe grabbed bronze in the 16-18 girls 50m breaststroke and 200m IM. She made finals in the 100m breaststroke, moving up from eighth place to fourth to just miss out on bronze.
Joshua Kim won bronze in the 13 & under boys 100m breaststroke. Joshua made finals in the 50m breaststroke, finishing fourth overall, sixth in the 200m breaststroke, and seventh in the 200m IM.
He broke the club record in the 50m breaststroke (32.75 seconds) and the 100m breaststroke (1:11.37).
Justin Schramm was another club record breaker in the 17-18 boys 200m fly (2:06.30), where he finished sixth overall. He was also eighth in the 800m freestyle and ninth in the 400m freestyle.
Other swimmers making finals were: Chelsea Borrowdale, 10th in the 16-18 girls 100m breaststroke; Jenessa Hillman, eighth in the 14-year-old girls 1500m freestyle; Brayden Kells, was eighth in the 13 & under boys 100m breaststroke and fifth in the 200m breaststroke.
“We have been training hard and the swimmers were well prepared for this meet,” Olympians head coach Brian Metcalfe said. “It was great to see so many of them winning medals at this level of competition against some very tough competitors, especially for the younger swimmers in the team. “
