Langley Olympians outstanding at LMR Championships

Sharing the water with the Lower Mainland’s elite swimmers brought out the best in a 10-year-old Langley Olympians Swim Club member Brayden Herbert.

Herbert led a contingent of LOSC swimmers who visited the Vancouver Aquatic Centre for the 2015 LMR Championships.

Hosted by the Canadian Dolphin Swim Club and attended by 400m swimmers from 15 teams across the Lower Mainland, the meet was a short course (25 metre pool) competition with timed finals (no heats and finals).

All the swimmers attending the meet needed to have their regional qualifying time in the 200-metre IM.

Fourteen of LOSC’s age group swimmers swam at the meet and between them; they came away with a number of medals, new qualifying times, Club Records and lots of best times.

Herbert raced extremely well, achieving four new B.C. ‘AA’ times in the 100m and 200m breaststroke, and 100m and 200m backstroke swims.

This means that he is now qualified to attend the 2015 BC AA championships in Kamloops later this month.

He also came away with a gold medal in the 10 & under boys 200m backstroke and 200m breaststroke, silver in the 100m breaststroke and 100m backstroke, and bronze in the 50m freestyle.

Other LOSC swimmers placing in the top 3 included:

Sophia Adrain, 12, in the 12-13 girls 100m fly;

Danika Bedard, 10, in the 10 & under girls 100m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke;

Madison “Ella” Belgica broke two club records in the 8 & under girls 50m freestyle in a time of 37.12 and the 100m backstroke in a time of 1:35.50.

“I am so proud of our young swimmers achieving so much at this meet. It was great to see so many of them get new qualifying times, win medals and break club records,” Olympians head coach Brian Metcalfe said. “Well done to Brayden for qualifying for the 2015 BC AA Championships.”
