A special fundraiser by the Langley Rivermen will mean 123 local children will get books this Christmas.

The Rivermen are donating a book for each ticket sold at the team’s Nov. 4 game at the George Preston Recreation Centre.

“We ended up raising a little over $600 for the Literacy Network,” said Amanda Henderson, the team’s manager of business operations.

The Literacy Network will use the funds to buy books for children registered with the Langley Christmas Bureau.

The event will help top up the Literacy Network’s book purchasing fund.

“This way, every child will be able to get a book who’s registered with the Christmas Bureau,” said Henderson.

The Network works with libraries to determine popular titles and finds age-appropriate books for each of the children.

Another special event coming up will be a pajama drive on Sunday, Nov. 27 at the Rivermen’s home game at the GPRC.
