Langley Rivermen rookie commits to Providence

Chase Zieky hasn’t played a BCHL game and has already secured an NCAA Div. 1 scholarship.

A rookie with the B.C. Hockey League’s Langley Rivermen already has his hockey future mapped out.

Langley’s junior A squad announced last Friday that forward Chase Zieky (1996 born) has committed to play for Providence College of the NCAA for the 2016/17 season.

Zieky came to the Rivermen this off season from the prestigious Avon Old Farms Academy in Connecticut and will be entering his rookie season in the BCHL this year,

“Chase is a highly skilled winger who will add some scoring punch this season for us,” Rivermen head coach and general manager Bobby Henderson noted.

Last season was Zieky’s third season with Avon Old Farms, and he put up 27 goals while adding 18 assists for 45 points in 26 games.

He also has some Stanley Cup lineage as his uncle is Chicago Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville.

Zieky becomes the ninth player on this year’s Rivermen roster to be committed to an NCAA Div. 1 school.

The Rivermen kicked off training camp on Monday, Aug. 24 at the Langley Events Centre.

The team will play three exhibition games at the LEC before hosting the Prince George Spruce Kings in their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 19. Game time is 6 p.m.
