Each week, the North Langley Football league offers a summary of play, compiled by Jennifer Schroeder.
Here’s a look back at week four of play for the young football players.
Atom:
The Bears evened up their season at 2 and 2 with a decisive 28-0 win against the Chilliwack Giants.
The Bears dominated the first half with Jackson Brhelle scoring the opening touchdown followed by Sam Sieben, with a 60-yard run for the second touchdown of the game.
Vaan Stewart and Jesse Mason Goolst added points to the board with two more touchdowns in the second quarter.
The Bear’s defence kept the Giants in check, including Jesse Mason Goolst and Braydon Warkentin, who worked together to stop a 70-yard run to keep the Giants off the score board in the fourth quarter.
Dain Onyanabo, with the games two field goals, was a force to be reckoned with on both the offensive and defensive lines, earning him “Player of the Game.”
Great job Bears!
Peewee:
The North Langley Bears peewee team won their third straight, taking down the Chilliwack Red Giants on the road 20-8 on Saturday.
Evan Hoy (#82) scored the first touchdown, with the point after kick by Damon Bernemann (#9).
The Bears defence was solid once again, with several tackles for losses by Aiden McMurtry (#44), Rowen Engele (#71) and Talon Schroeder (#64).
Lucca Patterson (#67) and Schroeder also added many sacks on the day.
Benjamin Evans (#11), the Bears quarterback, threw for several first downs and added a pick six touchdown on defence.
Rylan Middleton (#12) added a touchdown on a run for the Bears. Spencer Hazelton (#80), Brody Hunter (#86) and Eli Linden (#18) added to the Bears defence while Bernemann, Lachlan MacInnes (#81) and Lucas Kinch (#30) added to the offensive game.
Aiden McMurtry (#44) was named the player of the game by the Chilliwack coaches.
The Bears have a bye next week and return home on Thanksgiving weekend to keep their winning streak alive.
Midget:
North Langley Kodiaks travelled to John Oliver Park this week to take on the North Delta Longhorns.
It did not take long for the Kodiaks to open the scoring.
With strong blocking from their offensive line, running back Drey Blair moved the ball down the field on three nice runs before Jared Slater ran in the touchdown from 12 yards out.
The Kodiaks ground out the game with a hard running attack with Ethan Bernardin and Drey Blair adding a touchdown each along the ground.
Not to be out done, Luke Chalk hauled in a 28-yard pass from quarterback Isaiah Key for another score.
Kicker David Wegert was on point completing four converts and a field goal, bringing the final score to 31-0 for the Kodiaks.
The defence had another stellar game highlighted by interceptions by Nolan Speers and Nick Lacroix. Mason Block was a force on the defensive line as the Kodiaks stopped the Longhorns all game long.
Next week the Kodiaks are on the road again as they travel to the Island to play the Victoria Spartans.
