Langley swimmers place in provincial competition

Olympians club members headed to Victoria for a recent meet.

Four members of the Langley Olympians Swim Club competed in a series of events at the Canadian Swimming Trials last weekend.

From April 6-9, swimmers headed to Saanich Commonwealth Place, including Hillary Metcalfe, 18, Josie Field, 15, Bailey Herbert, 14, and Joshua Kim, 15.

For swimmers to be eligible to attend the meet, they had to have achieved a Canadian Swimming Trials time standard.

Metcalfe competed in five events, her best placing coming at 6th in the Women’s 400 metre individual medley. She also competed in two breaststroke events and the women’s 200 metre individual medley.

Herbert also competed inf ive events, including the women’s 200 metre breaststroke, where she placed 24th, and in individual medley and butterfly events.

Field came 14th in the women’s 200 metre butterfly.

Kim finished 20th in the 100 metre breaststroke and competed in an individual medley event as well.

The competition served as a selection trial for the 2017 FINA World Championships and the 2017 Junior WOrld Championships. More than 400 swimmers attended.
