Langley swimmers take top spots at Washington meet

Thirteen Langley Olympians swimmers headed off to Moses Lake, Washington last weekend to compete in the Sizzlin’ Summer Meet.

Thirteen Langley Olympians swimmers headed off to Moses Lake, Washington last weekend to compete in the Sizzlin’ Summer Meet, hosted by Moses Lake Manta Rays.

The L/A OSC team, comprised of swimmers from both Langley and Abbotsford Olympians, finished eighth overall.

The meet was attended by more than 450 swimmers from 22 teams from Washington State, Oregon and BC.

“This meet is a great way for some of our swimmers to finish their season,” said Brian Metcalfe, head coach of Langley and Abbotsford Olympians Swim Club.

“Travelling down to the States and competing against some new and tough competition is a great challenge. We raced well and came away with a large number of medals and top eight placings.”

Leading the way for the Olympians was Brayden Kells, 10, who was the aggregate winner in the boys 10 and under category. Brayden placed first in 200 free, 100 breast, 50 free, 50 breast and 100 free. He also placed second in 200 IM, 100 fly and 50 fly and third in 50 back and 100 back.

Other swimmers placing in the top three:

First Place — Hannah Weinkauf in 13-14 girls 50 free;

Second Place­ — Josie Field in 10 and under girls 200 free and 50 fly and Hannah Weinkauf in 13-14 girls 100 free and 100 back;

Third Place — Josie Field in 200 IM, 100 fly and  100 back, Bailey Herbert in 10 and under girls 100 breast and 50 breast, and Hannah Weinkauf in 200 back.

Bailey Herbert also achieved 100 per cent best times at the meet.

L/A OSC Swimmers placing in the top eight in individual events include Meredith Clark, Bryce Dong and Mackenzie Dong.
