Two Langley teenagers are hoping a strong showing next week in Ontario will earn them a ticket to Europe this summer.

Tanner Wick and Emily Down are off to Welland, Ont. where they hope a strong showing earns them spots on Canada’s junior national rowing team.

The tryouts run this weekend with the final team set to be announced next week.

The pair — both Grade 12 students — are captains of the Fort Langley Youth Rowing Society FLYRS.

Down is in her fifth year in the sport while Wick is in year four.

FLYRS head coach Nadine Mross said both athletes have an incredibly focused and determined work ethic which has been a huge factor in not only achieving their goals, but serving as an inspiration for the rest of the club.

Should they make the Canadian side, they would represent their country at the world championships, which run Aug. 2 to 6 in Trakai, Lithuania.
