Langley Thunder axed by Adanacs

The Coquitlam Adanacs snapped a 6-6 tie with back-to-back goals in the third period, and then hung on to edge the Langley Thunder 8-7 in Western Lacrosse Association action Wednesday at the Langley Events Centre.

The loss dropped the Thunder’s record to 2-2 while the Adanacs (1-2) earned their first win of the season.

The game was close throughout, with Coquitlam leading 3-2 after the first frame and the Thunder having the edge in the middle frame by outscoring the Adanacs 3-2.

A power play goal from rookie Anthony Malcom at the 17:05 mark of the final period, his third of the night, brought the Thunder  to within a goal but that was as close as they got as the Adanacs held the hosts off the scoreboard over the final 2:55 of regulation.

Along with Malcom’s hat trick and one assist, the Thunder’s Alex Turner scored twice and added an assist, and Patrick Saunders found the net once and added four helpers in a losing cause.

Quinn Smith also scored for the Thunder.

Brian Gillis and Brendon Anger each scored twice for the Adanacs to pace Coquitlam’s offence.

Adanacs goaltender Dan Lewis made 46 saves and was named second star of the game.

The Thunder get the weekend off before they travel north across the Golden Ears Bridge to take on the winless Maple Ridge Burrards at Planet Ice on Tuesday, June 9.

Game time at the Maple Ridge rink is 7:45 p.m.

Then, on Wednesday, June 10, the Thunder host the Victoria Shamrocks at the LEC, with an earlier-than-usual 7 p.m. start time.
