The Langley Trappers took a big step towards earning a post-season berth, picking up three of a possible four points against the first-place Ridge Meadows Flames.
The Trappers and the Flames skated to a 3-3 draw on Saturday at Maple Ridge’s Planet Ice before Langley knocked off the Flames 3-2 Wednesday night at the George Preston Recreation Centre.
The Trappers are unbeaten in four games (3-0-1-0) and sit in third place in the PJHL’s Harold Brittain Conference. And with three games remaining, the junior B expansion hockey club has a five-point cushion over both Aldergrove and Mission. The top four qualify for the playoffs.
Wednesday’s game saw the teams tied at two in the second period when Matthew Smoliga scored his second of the night for the winner. It was part of a three-point game for the defenceman.
Hollander Thompson had Langley’s other goal as the Trappers went 3-for-7 with the man advantage.
Kristian Lyon made 28 saves for the win.
Saturday’s contest saw Nicholas Wagner, Casey Whintors and Ben Hamel with the Trappers goals while Keaton Dyck made 38 saves.
Langley is back in action on Feb. 1 as they visit the Surrey Knights.
