Three goals in the final eight minutes snapped a 6-6 tie and sent the Langley Thunder to victory in a first-place showdown with the Victoria Shamrocks.

The Thunder were hosting the Shamrocks on June 30 at the Langley Events Centre and the 9-6 victory was the team's eighth win in the past 10 games.

It also improved Langley to 8-4-0 and their 16 points are two more than second-place Victoria (7-3-0), although the Shamrocks do have a pair of games in hand.

The teams were tied 2-2 after one period and then 4-4 after 40 minutes.

The Thunder jumped ahead 6-4 early in the third on goals by Athan Iannucci and Ryan McMichael but the ’Rocks struck back with a pair of their own.

But Kerry Susheski put Langley ahead for good with 8:43 remaining and Shayne Jackson and Alex Turner sealed the victory with goals 51 seconds apart in the late going.

Brodie MacDonald stopped 29 of the 35 shots he faced for the win.

Jackson finished with two goals and two assists while Garrett Billings had a goal and three helpers. Susheski and Iannucci both had two goals and an assist and Alex Turner scored once and set up another.

Langley now hits the road for the next three games, including a pair this weekend on Vancouver Island: a July 6 rematch with the Shamrocks in Victoria and July 7 versus the Nanaimo Timbermen (5-3-1).
