Ryan Bakken's hockey career is being thrown to the Lions.

Bakken is joining the Lindenwood University Lions hockey program next season.

Bakken, who served as captain of the junior A Langley Rivermen last season, is joining the St. Charles, Missouri school in the fall.

"I'm extremely excited for the fall to head to Lindenwood and get started on the next chapter of my life," he said.

The defencman, who is from Langley, played in 185 games during his BCHL career. He recorded five goals and 41 assists and 112 penalty minutes.

He credited the Rivermen organization with helping him develop.

"I definitely learned a lot throughout the year, not only about myself as a person, but as a hockey player as well," Bakken said.

"I can't thank the management and coaching staff enough for getting me to where I am today."

"He set the bar of what the expectations of a captain should be," said Rivermen coach and general manager Bobby Henderson.

"He had great connections not only with teammates but with the community as well.

"He will be missed but we couldn't be happier for the opportunity that he has earned."

Their will be a familiar face on the Lions for Bakken as Rivermen teammate Darnell Dyck is also joining the Lindenwood squad.
