Louise Forsyth is set to go up against the best after being chosen to compete in the 2017 Across Border Global Games.

The game pits some of the best high school basketball players in North America with Canada taking on their U.S. counterparts.

The game — by invitation only — will be played May 6 at the Rise Centre in Brantford, Ont.

“Being selected is an amazing opportunity,” Forsyth said. “I am so grateful and honoured to play in this event and can’t wait to get on the court.”

“The Across Border Global Games will prove to be a venue to showcase the best in women’s high school basketball on an international platform,” said director of ABGG Canada Jim Wilson, in a press release.

“The landscape of women’s basketball is changing at a rapid rate.

“Identifying these young, talented athletes will be an instrumental part of bringing awareness globally to support and promote women’s basketball.”

The 18-year-old helped the Brookswood Bobcats finish third in March at the B.C. 3A senior girls provincial championships, earning first team all-star honours. She was also named the B.C. Senior Secondary Schools Girls Basketball Association player of the year.

Forsyth played all five seasons of high school on the senior team, amassing three gold, a silver and a bronze medal.

Forsyth, who graduates from Brookswood in June, is off to Spokane’ Gonzaga University in the fall on a basketball scholarship.

“Louise is a high level shooter. She has an amazing work ethic and such an eagerness to learn,” Gonzaga head coach Lisa Fortier said on the school’s website, back in November. “She brings great length to the wing, which we will utilize heavily on defence.

“Lou is very comfortable playing at a fast pace.

“She will be able to stretch the defence and allow us to continue to work inside out.”

Forsyth is also hoping to represent Canada for a third straight summer this July as she attempts to make the Canadian junior women’s national team.
