The Trinity Western Spartans men’s volleyball team blanked the UBC Okanagan Heat 3-0 in their final pre-season game Saturday at the Langley Events Centre.

The 25-19, 25-15, and 25-15 win improves TWU to 13-2 in preseason play.

“We haven’t had a lot of bad performances this pre-season. I still don’t know what last night was, but tonight’s match was one of our better performances. We had good service pressure, we were really smooth, and we adjusted quickly, which was a challenge for us in other matches,” TWU head coach Ben Josephson said, following the win.

“We talked about losing last night doesn’t make us a bad team and winning tonight doesn’t make us a good team. We were able to outperform our opponents today. The important thing was that we were able to do it by getting better at things that we have been working on. And that is what we didn’t do last night.”

Josephson added, “Our mental approached this game was much better. If we apply this mentality the every game the whole way we will keep getting better. Everything that was kind of iffy last night was really sharp tonight.”

The defending CIS men’s volleyball champion Spartans open Canada West conference play this Friday, Oct. 28 in Regina against the Cougars.

The Spartans’ home opener is Friday, Nov. 4 when they will host the Calgary Dinos.
