Langley's Jackson Wang won the MJT Bantam Boys division at Golden Eagle Golf Club in Pitt Meadows with back-to-back under-par rounds of 66 and 69 (135), carding a total of 12 birdies over the June 14–15 weekend.

His first-round six-under-par set the tone for a commanding performance from start to finish wrapping up with a nine-under-par total.

“It feels great winning this tournament,” Wang declared, “because I took a two-tournament break and I won the first one after the break.”

It was the second and final stop in the MJT US Performance Academy Series, a wait-listed event on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), drawing more than 90 junior golfers from across B.C. and as far away as New Taipei, Taiwan, in the person of 13-year-old Hsi Huai Lin, who took the MJT Girls U15 division.

Lin fired rounds of 75 and 71 (146) with a total of nine birdies. “I had a lot of pressure coming down the stretch,” she stated. “But I’m very proud that I pulled through.”

Six MJT US Performance Academy division titles and qualifying spots in both the East Coast Junior Championship and MJT National Tour Challenge were on the line.

There was an unexpected pause in play when a bear made a surprise appearance on the fairway during round one.

Up next, the MJT Ford Series, taking place at Rivershore Golf Links in Kamloops, on July 14-15.

The non-profit Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour is Canada’s major Junior Golf Tour as well as the only national junior tour run exclusively by PGA of Canada Professionals and the ‘Road to College Golf’ in Canada.
