Lifeguards from all over southern British Columbia descended on the Walnut Grove pool on Aug. 13.
The longest running lifeguard competition in western Canada held its 17th annual event in Langley.
The competitors came from around the Lower Mainland and on Vancouver Island.
In teams of four, they competed to demonstrate their lifesaving skills.
That included group events in which they had to locate and save volunteers posing as drowning victims, and a relay race that included hauling volunteers 25 metres.
The annual event is also a chance for local lifeguards to catch up, connect, and talk every year, said volunteer Jim Davies.
