Masse wins gold, set to compete at nationals in May

Langley's Adam Masse takes top spot at provincial weightlifting championships

Adam Masse broke his own provincial record en route to winning a gold medal at the B.C. weightlifting provincial championships.

The event was held Dec. 13 at Cloverdale's Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary.

Masse, a 23-year-old from Langley, won gold in the 77-kg division.

Masse lifted 120 kg in the snatch and 155 kg in the clean and jerk and the latter set a new provincial record, bettering his own mark from this past June.

He was also named the best overall senior male at the meet and he climbed to number three overall in the provincial senior men's rankings.

The gold medal also qualifies Masse for the 2015 Canadian senior national weightlifting championships, which will be held in May in Mississauga, Ont.

The championships will serve as a national team selection event for 2015 Pan Am Games, which will be held in Toronto this summer.
