Thirty-nine saves — including 25 in the third period alone — from goaltender Silas Matthys helped the Trinity Western Spartans take sole possession of top spot in the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League.
Matthys stopped everything the Selkirk Saints sent his way in the 4-0 Spartans victory last week (Nov. 14) at the Langley Events Centre.
The win improved Trinity Western to 6-2-0-1 and 13 points.
JP Villenueve and PJ Buys scored in the first period while Cody Fidgett and Grange Gordon scored in the second and third periods, respectively.
Blair Murphy and Dawson Sawatzky had a pair of assists apiece.
The Spartans are on the road this weekend as they travel to play Eastern Washington for a pair of games.

Matthys' play earned him the league's player of the week award.
His six victories lead the league while his goals against average (2.56) ranks third and his save percentage (.925) is tied for top spot. The shutout was his first in the BCIHL.
