Langley Olympians' Hillary Metcalfe earned the necessary qualifying time to compete at the Canadian Olympic trials in April.

Hillary Metcalfe has earned a spot at next month’s Canadian Olympic trials in Toronto.

The 17-year-old did so after achieving her Olympic qualifying time in the 400 IM at the UBC Aquatic Centre earlier this month (March 12 and 13).

Metcalfe was one of five members of the Langley Olympians Swim Club who were competing at the B.C. senior championships.

To qualify for the prestigious meet — which featured 200 of the top swimmers in the province — participants needed to make a minimum of three provincial AAA standards.

In addition to making the qualifying time in the 400 IM, Metcalfe won bronze in the 200 IM and made the finals in her other four events.

Justin Schramm also found the podium, taking second in the 400 free. The 18-year-old made the finals in the 200 fly and the B finals in the 100 fly and 200 free events.

The Olympians also had a team of 17 swimmers compete at the Winskill Dolphin Lower Mainland Regional Meet that same weekend in Tsawwassen.

The team won 14 gold, 11 silver and four bronze medals and they were led by Ella Belgica and Isobel McNeill. The swimmers, both of whom are nine years old, each won five gold medals and a silver medal.

Belgica was first in the 100 back, 50 breast, 200 IM, 50 free and 100 fly events and won silver in the 200 back.

McNeill was tops in the 200 breast, 100 free, 100 breast, 200 back and 200 free and won silver in the 100 back.

Other medal winners were: Joseph Park (age 17) won two gold (100 back, 100 free); Katelyn Schroeder (10) won two gold (50 free, 50 back); Sophia Adrain (13) won two silver (200 fly, 100 fly) and a bronze (400 IM) medal; Aiden Erickson (10) won a silver (10 fly) and bronze (50 fly) medal; Cassidy Fu (15) won two silver (100 breast, 50 back) medals; Riley Lane (11) won silver (200 free); Erin Moloney (16) won silver (100 fly) and bronze (100 breast); John Park (12) won silver (50 breast) and bronze (100 free); and Milana Solar (13) took silver in the 200 free.
