A sparking 47-save performance from Wyatt Galley and a hat trick from Josh Myers helped the Langley Chiefs double the Victoria Grizzlies 4-2.

The two junior A hockey clubs, in a battle for third spot in the BCHL's Coastal Conference, clashed on Thursday night at the Langley Events Centre.

The win gives the Chiefs some breathing room in the race for third place as they opened up a five-point cushion over Victoria. Langley (28-20-1-7) has 64 points with four games remaining. However, the Grizzlies do hold three games in hand.

Langley received a boost on Thursday with the return of Matt Ius to the line-up.

Ius, who was on pace to finish top five in league scoring but has been out for the past month, was back on the ice and opened the scoring with a power-play goal.

However, the Grizzlies closed the first period with a 2-1 lead, thanks to goals from Justin Fillion and Kyle St. Denis, the latter coming on the power play.

But the second period belonged to Myers as he scored a natural hat trick, including once on an unassisted shorthanded effort.

Myers also had an assist on Ius' first period goal for the four-point night, and he sits second in the league in goals with 37, two behind Powell River's Matt Garbowsky.

Neither team scored in the final period, with Galley stopping everything thrown his way.

Victoria finished with 49 shots on goal, including a 15-6 advantage in the third, while Langley fired 30 shots.

The Chiefs are back in action on Saturday (Feb. 5) as they host the league's top team, the Powell River Kings.
