Nakamura double sends Blaze to victory

Extra-base hit gives Langley one-run win over Victoria in B.C. Premier Baseball League action

A two-run double from Quintin Nakamura in the top of the seventh inning proved to be the difference.

The extra-base hit scored Brock Wickins and Rhys Cratty and gave the Langley Blaze a 3-1 against the Victoria Mariners on Sunday at Henderson Park.

Jake Kristensen had an RBI single in the third inning, scoring Nakamura.

Nick Iverson threw a complete game with seven strikeouts for the win.

The win earned the Blaze a split as they dropped game one of the B.C. Premier Baseball League doubleheader by an 11-4 score.

The Blaze were behind big early and could never recover, allowing five runs in the first inning, one more in the second and then four more in the third.

Cratty drove in two runs while Marshall Luiz had the other run batted in.

Markus Gregson was tagged with the loss, allowing 10 runs — six of them earned — over three innings.

Langley sits at 12-8 on the season and next plays against the Abbotsford Cardinals on June 7 at McLeod Park.
