It was a historic performance for Team BC, thanks to the help of four Langley ringette players.
The players helped Team BC win gold at the U16 Canadian national championships, the first time the province has won gold in the 35-year history of the AA division.
Tiana Ollive, Sarah MacDonald, Sydney Schwartz and Rachel Gauthier were all members of the Lower Mainland Thunder, which represented B.C. at the tournament.
Ollive, a defender, earned first-team all-star honours while MacDonald, a goalie, was a second-team selection.
The championships were held in Fredericton, N.B. and wrapped up on Saturday.
Team BC finished 5-2 in the round robin and placed the team fourth in their pool. But they upset the top team in the other pool, the Calgary Crew, 2-0 in the quarter-finals.
And then MacDonald delivered another 2-0 shutout, this time over Guelph (Ontario).
The final was against the Calgary Strive, and the Thunder build a 6-1 halftime lead on their way to an 8-4 victory for the gold medal.
Schwartz, a defender, was a key cog in helping the team allow just 20 goals against in 10 games.
And Gauthier led the team in goals (10) and points (16).
