Langley Christian Lightning’s Kiana Bekar captured the silver medal in the senior girls long jump (above) as well as gold in the triple jump at the B.C. high school track and field championships in Nanaimo.

A pair of personal bests helped Langley Christian's Kiana Bekar win gold and silver, respectively, at the B.C. high school track and field championships in Nanaimo.

Bekar won the triple jump with a leap of 11.60m while she took second in the long jump at 5.52m.

This comes on the heels of winning silver medals in both events at the provincial championships in 2015.

“This year, I trained a lot harder and made it out to all the practices,” said the 17-year-old Grade 12 student at Langley Christian.

“More off-season training.”

Bekar was confident she would have a good shot at gold, especially in the triple jump, her preferred event.

“I like the technical aspect of it,” she explained.

With the high school season over, Bekar will switch her focus to club, as she trains with the B.C. Flyers.

Bekar is hoping to qualify to attend the junior national championships in Edmonton next month.

She will attend UBC in September on a track and field scholarship.
