There were three Langley senior girls basketball teams in the field of eight at the Tsumura Basketball Invitational: A Tournament for Emily, over the weekend at the Langley Events Centre and all three suffered the same fate, a loss to the tournament champion Abbotsford Panthers.

The Brookswood Bobcats lost 80-78 in Saturday’s championship final, while the Langley Christian Lightning fell 71-54 in Friday’s semifinals.

And the Walnut Grove Gators were on the losing end of a 85-59 score in Thursday’s opening round action.

The Bobcats defeated the Little Flower Academy Angels 81-49 in the opener, the Argyle Pipers 65-43 in the quarter-finals and the Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers 72-60 in the semifinals.

The Lightning, who moved up from 1A to 2A this season, knocked off the Mouat Hawks 66-42 in the opener and the Seycove Seyhawks 65-35 in round two. After losing to the Panthers, Langley Christian fell 81-58 in the bronze medal game.

And the Gators — made up of Grade 10 and 11 players only — bounced back from their opening round loss to defeat the Charles Best Blue Devils 54-45 in round two.

They lost their final two games, however, falling to the Riverside Rapids and then 71-64 to Little Flower Academy in the 11th/12th place game.
