Pilots down Kodiaks in overtime

KURT LANGMANN Kodiaks captain Matt Oliver had a goal and an assist in the 3-4 overtime loss to Abbotsford Pilots, Sept. 29, and scored twice and had an assist in the 8-3 win over Surrey Knights, Sept. 27.

The Aldergrove Kodiaks took a 4-3 overtime loss to the Abbotsford Pilots Friday night at MSA Arena.

The game was competitive through all three periods but the Pilots took it in the second overtime, leaving the Kodiaks with at least one point, for a season total of nine (4-2-0-1).

The Kodiaks evened the score up at 1-1 halfway through the second period with a goal by Kyle Bosko, assisted by Jesse Conroy and David Stickney. The Pilots puled ahead a few minutes later on a power play but Kodiaks captain Matt Oliver scored a short-handed goal second later, assisted by Clayton Schroeder.

The Kodiaks briefly took the lead in the third period with a goal from Stickney, assisted by Davin Padgham and Oliver, but the Pilots evened it up on a power play to take the game into overtime.

The Kodiaks had seven power plays that night but were unable to score on any, and were outshot 38-20.

Oliver was the game’s second star.

The Kodiaks travel to Delta Tuesday, Oct. 3 to play the Ice Hawks, and the Kodiaks’ next home games are Wednesday, Oct. 4, 7:15 p.m. versus the Richmond Sockeyes and Oct. 11, 7:15 p.m. versus the Grandview Steelers.
