Pitching fuels Blaze to final four

Langley defeats Parksville 2-0 in quarter-final playoff series

The Langley Blaze used a pair of dominating pitching performances to advance to the final four championships.

The Blaze defeated the Parksville Royals 4-1 and 3-0 on Saturday afternoon in Parksville in the B.C. Premier U18 Baseball League best-of-three quarter-finals.

In the opener, Langley’s Kyle Joel allowed just one hit — albeit a home run — but the Blaze had more than enough offence, winning 4-1.

Mike Krische responded with a home run for the Blaze, while Tyler Barlow drove in a pair of runs and Greg Rogers had the other RBI.

And in game two, Langley scored three times in the first inning en route to a 3-0 victory to win the series.

Jerod Bartnik, Bill Germaine and Rogers had the RBIs.

Devon Stewart allowed three hits over six and one-third innings, with Tom Robson coming on to nail down the final two outs.

Langley advances to this weekend’s (July 29-31) final four championships at Nat Bailey Stadium.
