Led by a stout defensive effort — which forced eight turnovers — the Langley Rams routed the host Okanagan to kickoff the 2012 season.

The Rams were in Kelowna at the Apple Bowl on Saturday (Aug. 4) for the first game of the B.C. Junior Football Conference season.

Langley turned the eight Okanagan miscues into 35 points en route to a 42-14 victory.

Daniel Xavier scored a pair of short first quarter touchdown runs less than a minute apart to stake the Rams to the early 14-0 lead.

Both majors were set up by sacks which cause Okanagan quarterback Cam Bedore to fumble in Suns territory, with Adam Konar and Evan Foster jarring the ball loose, respectively, and Alex Agnoletto and Arie Nakagawa coming up with the recoveries.

The Suns did cut the lead in half to 14-7 in the second quarter on a 48-yard touchdown pass from Bedore to Bobby Davis. But the Rams got that back, as quarterback Greg Bowcott capped off a seven-play 70-yard drive by running in from eight yards.

And then after Konar came up with an interception on the next drive, Bowcott connected with Nick Downey on a 30-yard touchdown pass just before the half.

Konar wasn’t done, either, as he found the end zone on a 27-yard interception return to stake the Rams to a 35-7 lead.

Both teams scored once along the ground in the fourth quarter, with Okanagan’s Bobby Davis scoring for the Sun from six yards out and the Rams’ Kyle Albertini punching the ball in from nine yards out.

Konar finished the game with 32 defensive points, the fourth most in a single game in BCFC history.

Langley is on the road on Saturday (Aug. 11) when they visit Nanaimo to face the defending league champion Vancouver Island Raiders (1-0).
