The Langley Rams struck early and often as they improved to 2-0 on the junior football season.
The Rams scored five touchdowns in the first quarter — including a pair of defensive scores — as they routed the visiting Westshore Rebels 69-10 at McLeod Park on Aug. 3 in B.C. Junior Football Conference action.
And the score could have been even worse as Langley had three touchdowns negated by penalties and a handful of Rams starters on both sides of the ball only played the first half.
When all was said and done, quarterback Jahlani Gilbert-Knorren threw three touchdown passes — a 15-yarder and a 53-yarder to Dan English and 97-yarder to Malcolm Williams — as well as running for one, from 19 yards.
Kyle Albertini (47 yards) and Nathan Lund (24 yards) both scored rushing touchdowns.
The defence also got into the act as Nathan Shepherd returned a fumble 17 yards for a score and ben Sharpe took an interception to the house from 75 yards out.
And all of this was in the first half alone.
Cecil Belanger took over at QB in the second half, throwing a 29-yarder to Mario Narte.
The rest of the points came off the boot of kicker Steve Thomas who finished with
15 points, going 9-for-9 on converts, making a 25-yard field goal and then adding two punt singles and one more point on a missed 40-yard field goal attempt.
The Langley defence finished with three fumble recoveries and two interceptions as well as three quarterback sacks.
Next up for the Rams is their first road game, Aug. 10 at Caledonia Park against the 1-1 Vancouver Island (VI) Raiders. The game is a rematch of the 2012 Cullen Cup championship.
