Marcus Gordon caught a 77-yard touchdown pass with 28 seconds remaining as the Langley Rams defeated the Westshore Rebels 35-30 in pre-season football action at McLeod Park.

The Rams hosted the Victoria team in their first pre-season B.C. Junior Football Conference game on Saturday (July 21).

The Rebels had forged ahead a few minutes earlier setting the stage for the Rams late-game comeback.

Quarterback Jon Roney connected on the throw to Gordon and the touchdown pass was Roney’s third of the game.

He finished 6-for-21 for 132 yards with two interceptions.

Greg Bowcott was 4-for-11 for 53 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Malcolm Williams also caught a pair of touchdowns, while Jonathan Carr had the other major.

Xavier Daniel led the Langley ground game with 60 yards on a dozen rushes, part of a 164-yard team rushing effort.

Defensively, the Rams came up with three interceptions: one apiece for Carlo Graziano, Curtis Schindel and Darian Matassa-Fung.

Matassa-Fung, Jarren Ralf, Nick Felicella and Spensor Farbatuk each had fumble recoveries.

The Rams close the pre-season with another home game on Saturday (July 28) against the Chilliwack Huskers. Game time is 7 p.m.

Langley opens the season on the road on August 4 against the Okanagan Sun.

The junior football team finished third in the regular season in 2011 before losing in the conference championship game.
